SUPERPLUS ANCHOR GOES SEISMIC
The SUPERPLUS, self undercut anchor, is already recognised under European Technical Approval ETA-01/0011 and holds the ETA Option 1 approval for cracked and non cracked concrete.
However, since there is no seismic tension qualification method defined in the European Technical Guideline (ETAG 001), Simpson Strong-Tie/ LIEBIG had both embedment depths of the M12 and the M16 SUPERPLUS tested under the seismic tension provisions of American Concrete Institute’s ACI 355.2 – Qualification of Post-Installed Mechanical Anchors and Commentary.
Testing was carried out and witnessed by the independent laboratory of Wiss, Janney Elstner Associates Inc, Northbrook, Illinois.
Jon Freeman, of Simpson Strong Tie/LIEBIG, said: “ACI 355.2 is a widely accepted form of testing in the United States and is very similar to ETAG 001, but it does include a seismic qualification method.
“The SUPERPLUS anchors passed the seismic tension requirements of AC1 355.2 and therefore it is appropriate to use the design data from ETA-01/0011 without reduction to resist seismic forces.”
