INDUSTRY TO MEET NEW GOVERNMENT AT JULY RECEPTION
The reception will raise the profile of the construction industry with the new government and Members of Parliament, as well as highlighting the role construction can play in the recovery, quality of life and in meeting sustainability targets. The new government needs to work with the construction industry, the largest sector in the economy, to help it meet its new policy objectives.
The Joint Contracts Tribunal is a pivotal force within construction, with members from both the supply and demand sides and all sections of the industry: public and private employers, contractors, subcontractors and consultants. It is the only consensual contract drafting body in the industry and has been setting standards for almost 80 years. Today, four out of five of all building projects use JCT forms of contract. JCT is in a unique position whereby any changes made to its standard forms of contract, whether reflecting new legislation or improving standards, have the support and agreement of the whole industry when published.
Recent initiatives have included leading the enhancement of sustainability guidance and provisions within contracts, enabling sustainability to be considered on all projects using JCT contracts, and the use of project bank accounts as part of its fair payment provisions. JCT continues to promote standardisation of contract documents so as to improve efficiency and reduce transaction costs within the construction industry.
The reception will take place in The Terrace starting at 4pm. Invitations will be distributed at the beginning of June.
