GLEEDS COMPLETES POLICE TREATMENT CENTRE
Gleeds, the International Management and Construction Consultancy, have completed their work as Project and Cost Manager, Building Surveyor and CDM Coordinator on the £2m refurbishment of The Police Treatment Centre at St. Andrews, Harrogate.
The Centre comprises one, two and three storey buildings, with the majority of Gleeds’ work involving the creation of a single storey extension of circa 270 sq m. This phase of work is now complete and houses a state-of-the-art physiotherapy suite which contains 18 much needed treatment beds. In addition, around 1400 sq m of the existing complex is refurbished and the hydro-therapy and swimming pools are being improved. Several en-suite bedrooms for residential patients were also upgraded as part of an advance phase of work.
The Police Treatment Centres is a charity and the extensive project is being funded entirely by charitable donations and benefited from over £1m of funding from The Home Office. This was the first contribution of its kind for the organisation and was announced by Jacqui Smith MP at the Police Federation Conference earlier in the year. The facility has since attracted the attention of the local media including the BBC who recently broadcast a news storey about the work that is underway. A special opening ceremony is currently being planned and is anticipated to take place in late Spring after the completion of further planned improvement works.
Commenting on the ongoing works, Michael Baxter, Chief Executive of the Police Treatment Centre said, “We are tremendously grateful to Gleeds for delivering this project on time and to budget, and also for their success in minimizing the impact of this extensive refurbishment on our staff and patients.”
Stuart Senior, Senior Partner of Gleeds Nottingham also commented, “I am delighted we are involved with this project for the Police Treatment Centre and am extremely pleased that Gleeds is able to provide the Officers with such an excellent facility.”
